Before you enter a regatta abroad
- Read the Notice of Race carefully. Check that the regatta is open to foreign entries and whether it needs membership of a national authority, a licence or a World Sailing Sailor ID.
- Rating and certificates. Offshore and handicap racing abroad often uses ORC or IRC. A national rating rarely carries over, so get the right certificate in good time.
- Insurance. Many notices require third-party liability cover of a minimum amount. Check that your boat insurance covers racing in that country.
- Transport and logistics. For dinghies and small keelboats, book trailer and harbour space early. Big weeks such as Kieler Woche and Cowes Week fill harbours and beds long in advance.
- The Sailing Instructions. Courses, signals and local rules differ between countries. Read them before you travel, not on the morning of the first race.
Save the regattas you are interested in and keep an eye on the Notice of Race and entries through the links on each regatta page. The full 2027 calendar is in our overview.
